The following regimen for oral prednisone is prescribed for a patient: 50mg/day x 10 days, 25mg/day x 10 days, 12.5 mg/day, 5mg/day x 10 weeks. How many scored 25mg tablets and how many 5mg tablets should be dispensed to meet dosing requirements?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

For 50 mg / day x 10 days:

Total mg = 50 mg / day * 10 days = 500 mg

25 mg tablets = total mg / mg tablet = 500 mg / 25 mg = 20 tablets

5 mg tablets = 500/5 = 100 tablets

For 25 mg / day x 10 days:

Total mg = 25 * 10 = 250 mg

25 mg tablets = 250/25 = 10 tablets

Tablets 5 mg = 250/5 = 50 tablets

For 12.5 mg / day x 10 days

Total mg = 12.5 mg / day * 10 days = 125 mg

Tablets 25 = 125/25 = 5 tablets

5 mg tablets = 125/5 = 25 tablets

For 5 mg / day x 10 weeks:

Total mg = 5 mg / day * 70 days = 350 mg

Tablets 25 = 350/25 = 14 tablets

Tablets 5 = 350/5 = 70 tablets
