What properties can be used to describe gases? What are gas laws? Give at least one example.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The properties that are used to describe gases are : pressure , volume , number of moles etc.

These properties differ at different conditions.

The gas laws are given by different chemists and scientists that relate the properties of the gases according to the conditions provided.

For example : Boyle's law : It relates pressure and volume of the gas by the relation p1 V1 = p2 V2

Charle's law : It relates the volume of gases as the function of temperature. he gave the relation: V1T2 = V2 T1

The ideal gas law combines all the gas laws into one , and is given as :

pV = nRT

Substances that are gases at room temperature have unique properties compared to liquids and solids. Some gases occur naturally in our atmosphere, and other gases are added to the environment. For example, chlorodifluoromethane (CHClF2) is a gas used as a refrigerant from about 1930 until the entire class of Freon gases were banned in 1987 by the Montreal Protocol.   -Choose a substance that’s a gas a room temperature. -Determine its density at room temperature (look up or calculate). -Describe its...

Give the relationship between the partial pressure of methane and oxygen gases by explaining the laws involved in a process proceeded by the following stages. Stage 1. Equal mass of methane and oxygen are taken in a container.            Stage 2: Equal masses of methane and oxygen in a container are allowed to effuse through a small hole in the container for one minute.

Not sure what he mean by this? Give a real-life example of at least 2 instances this week when you used one of the three heuristics discussed in class (availability heuristic, representativeness heuristic, anchoring & adjustment heuristic). For each example, describe the situation, which heuristic you used, how you used the heuristic, and what the outcome was. Were there any negative or positive consequences of using the heuristic?

Sulfur trioxide gas can be removed from a gas stream, such as the exhaust gases of a coal-fired power plant, by reacting it with magnesium oxide. The reaction produces magnesium sulfate, according to the equation shown below. SO3 (g) + MgO (s) → MgSO4 (s) What volume of SO3 gas at 298 K and 0.832 atm could be captured by 1.50 × 102 kg of MgO?

For each of the following kinds of laws, pick at least one of the four grounds for justification—legal moralism, the harm principle, legal paternalism, and the offense principle—and construct an argument designed to justify the law. You may not agree either with the law or with the argument; the exercise is to see if you can connect the law to the (allegedly) justifying principle. For many laws, more than one kind of justification is possible, so there can be more...
