Dry air is bubbled through 25 litres of water at a rate of 15 litres (STP)/min. The air leaving the liquid is saturated with water at 25 degrees celcius and 1.5 atm. How long it will take for all of the water to vaporize.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

p   = Pdry air + PH2O

Pdry air = p-PH2O

             = 1.5-0.03127   = 1.468atm

   P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2

V2 = P1V1T2/P2T1

     = 15*1*298/1.468*273   = 11.1L/min

PV = nRT

   n = PV/RT

      = 0.03127*11.1/0.0821*298 = 0.01418 moles/min

mass of water = volume * density = 25000*1 = 25000g

no of moles of water = 25000/18 = 1388.88 moles

     1388mole* min/0.01419mole = 97815 min >>>> answer

Water is evaporating into initially dry air in the closed cylindrical vessel. The inside diameter of the vessel is 10 cm and the height is 20 cm. The vessel is isothermal at 25oC and the vapor pressure of water is 23.8 mmHg. This vessel has 500 cm3 of water. The rate of transfer of water from the liquid to the gas per unit area of gas-liquid interface is given by the expression rw(mol/cm2.s) = k(C*w - Cw) where Cw(mol/cm3) =...

You fill an ice tray with water at 25 degree celsius and place it into the freezer. Each cube has a volume of 30 mililiters (a mass of 30 g). Assume that heat is transferred from the water in each cube in the ice cube tray to the surrounding cold air in the freezer at a constant rate of 40 J/min. You can consider that the water (whether liquid or solid) in each cube is at uniform temperature. You can...

The next three questions go together. 21. Expired air is saturated with water vapor and generally contains more of it than does inspired air. There is usually a net loss of water from the body due to breathing. Water vapor pressure in the at saturation in the lungs (at 37°C) is 47 mmHg, while in expired air at 33°C it is 37.7 mmHg. Consider the case of someone who is breathing dry air in and moist air out at a...
