Penny sample absorbance value has to be the highest and lowest absorbance values for standard solutions. Explain why this is important.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Absorbance more than one is possible.

A=log10 Io/I

Low absorbance :

Absorbance zero means no light is absorbed (usually blank)

here the intensity of incident light is equal to the intensity of transmitted light hence the ratio is one and

log 1 = zero absorbance.

High absorbance:

Absorbance one means the 90% light has been absorbed. hence the ratio is 100/10 and log 10 is one.

at times absorbance could be more than 90% in those cases the absorbance would be more than 1.

significance :low absorbance shows that no light is absorbed and high absorbance shows that light has been absorbed more than 90%.the intensity of incident light is to intensity of reflected light

A student prepares a series of solutions of caffeine of known concentration and measures their absorbance values. A linear regression analysis was conducted on the data from Experiment 5 using Excel and produced the following equation for the line: Y = 0.4399 X + 0.125 The absorbance value for the student's unknown sample is 2.500 units. The student dilutes the unknown by placing 1.00 mL of the unknown solution into a 25.0 mL volumetric flask and diluting to the fill...

are measuring the concentration of Fe2 in a sample by measuring the absorbance of its complex with ferroxine. Your sample, measured in a 1.00-cm pathlength cuvette, has an absorbance of 0.208 while the reagent blank in the same cuvette has an absorbance of 0.046. What would be the absorbance reading of these two solutions if measured in a cuvette with 8.00 cm pathlength?
