Calculate the Delta G Reaction at 318 K under the conditions shown below for the following reaction. Fe2O3 (s) + 3CO (g) --> 2 Fe(s) + 3CO2 (g) Delta G= -28.0kJ

Homework Answers

Answer #1

   Fe2O3 (s) + 3CO (g) --> 2 Fe(s) + 3CO2 (g)

DH0rxn = (2*DH0f,Fe + 3*DH0f,CO2)-(1*DH0f,Fe2o3 + 3*DH0f,CO)

        = (2*0+3*-393.5) - (1*-824.2 + 3*-110.53)

        = -24.71 kj

DS0rxn = (2*S0f,Fe + 3*S0f,CO2)-(1*S0f,Fe2o3 + 3*S0f,CO)

         = (2*27.3 + 3*213.6) - (1*87.4 + 3*197.6)

         = 15.2 j/mol.k

DG = DH0-TDS0

     = (-24.71)-(318*15.2*10^-3)

     = -29.54 Kj

answer: DG = -29.54 Kj
