In the following reaction, how many grams of sodium sulfate, Na2SO4, will be produced from 88.3 g of sodium hydroxide, NaOH?

2NaOH + H2SO4 --> Na2SO4 + 2H2O

Homework Answers

Answer #1

According to given balanced chemical reaction equation 2 mol NaOH reacts with 1 mol H2SO4 and produces 1 mol Na2SO4.

moles in 88.3 g of sodium hydroxide = 88.3 g / 39.997 g/mol = 2.20766557492 moles

moles Na2SO4 formed = 2.20766557492 moles / 2 = 1.10383278746 moles

convert this moles to mass (amount) = moles Na2SO4 x molar mass of Na2SO4

grams of Na2SO4 produced = 1.10383278746 mol x 142.04 g/mol = 156.788409131 g

grams of Na2SO4 produced = 157 grams (3 sig fig)
