Which reactant is being oxidized in the following reaction? 2 Al + 3 Sn2+ --> 2 Al3+ + 3 Sn Just give the reactant. No need to include the coefficient if there is one. Indicate what is wrong with the statement given and write how you would fix it to be correct. In order for an oxidation reaction to occur, oxygen must be lost by all reactants.

Oxidation = process in which a specie will LOSS electrons

Reducing agent = The species that favors reduction, i.e. it will oxidize in order to reduce another species

Oxidizing agent = The species that favors oxidation, i.e. it will reduce in order to oxidise another species

2 Al + 3 Sn2+ --> 2 Al3+ + 3 Sn

Al goes from 0 to +3 (loses 3 electrons) therefore, oxidation... it is the reducing agent

Sn goes from +2 to 0, gians 2 electrons, therefore, reduces. it is the oxidizing agent
