1.05 g of an unknown gas at 23 °C and 1.10 atm is stored in a 1.85-L flask.

What is the density of the gas?

________g/L

What is the molar mass of the gas?

________ g/mol

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Density = mass / volume

             = 1.05 g / 1.85 L

             =0.568 g/L

PV = nRT

P is pressure, V is volume, n is moles, R is gas constatnt, T is temperature.

molar mass = mass * R * T / PV

                   = 1.05 g * 0.0821 Latm/mol.K * 293 K / 1.10 atm * 1.85 L

                   = 12.4 g/mol
