why is it important to say a catalyst that speeds up a reaction remains unchan

Answer #1

rhe role of a catalysr is to decrease the activation energy of reactant molecules so as to increase their collision frequency with the other milecules..it never forms or creares any kind of chemical bonds with the reactant milecules ...but if it were then we would never get our desired product as once catalsts would have attacked all the acrive sites of reactant molecules , no new bonds could be created to form products.....to prevent this we will never want our catalyst to react with reactant molecules...

Consider the following reaction which follows zero-order reaction kinetics           A(g) + Catalyst(s) ? B(g)                ?H = -226.9 kJ Notice that the reaction is exothermic, so in a closed system it is possible for this to get out of hand: The reaction releases energy, which increases the temperature, which increases the rate, which makes it heat up faster, which makes it react faster

The gas phase reaction AàB occurs on the surface of a catalyst in the form of a wire gauge. The bulk concentration of the species A is 0.002 kmol/m3 and the rate of reaction of A is measured at 0.08 kmol per hour per m2 area of the catalyst. If the reaction is instantaneous and the entire diffusional resistance to the transport of the reactive species from the bulk gas to the catalyst surface is offered by a stagnant film...
