Answer #1

Anabolic steroids such as Testosterone and epitestosterone are naturally produced by men's body. Its levels in the body changes daily and can vary from person to person and they are easily eliminated from the body in urine. Hence setting a limiting value to above steroids and confirming an athlete is deemed to be doped remains a mysterious matter of debate. Diuretics such as Dexa-trim, mannitol may be used in all sports to attempt to hide drug use.

An investigator conducts a study to examine the benefits of psychotherapy for individuals with depression. Specifically, the investigator predicts that depressed individuals who receive psychotherapy in addition to drug therapy for depression will display significantly lower levels of depression than persons with a diagnosis of depression who receive only drug therapy. The investigator assigns 10 subjects to each of the two conditions stated above. After three months the investigator measures depression using a scale in which higher scores reflect higher...

1. (3 pts) All interns for Comcast are required to be tested for drug use. The imperfect test gives positive results (indicating drug use) for 80% of all interns who actually use drugs but also (incorrectly) for 3% of those who do not use drugs. Suppose that only 10% of all of these interns actually use drugs. If an intern is tested negative, what is the probability that he/she uses drugs?

TESTING DRUGS IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD The drug development process is long, risky, and expensive. It can take ten years and cost in excess of $500 million to develop a new drug. Moreover, between 80 and 90 percent of drug candidates fail in clinical trials. Pharmaceutical companies rely upon a handful of successes to pay for their failures. Among the most successful of the world's pharmaceutical companies is New York–based Pfizer. Developing a new drug involves risks and costs, and...

A pharmaceutical company is testing a new drug to increase memorization ability. It takes a sample of individuals and splits them randomly into two groups. After the drug regimen is completed, all members of the study are given a test for memorization ability with higher scores representing a better ability to memorize. Those 21 participants on the drug had an average test score of 29.077 (SD = 4.199) while those 30 participants not on the drug had an average score...
