Organic chemistry question

What are some fields that 1-bromobutane can be utilized in ( energy, environment, etc) ?

Answer #1

1-bromobutane is an alkyl halide, mainly useful in chemical transformations. Sice only lower hydrocarbons are useful as energy sources like methane, propane, butane etc. But 1-bromobutane is not a hydrocarbon and hence we cannot use it as an energy source.

1-bromobutane is useful to prepare grignard reagents to add or replace with butyl group, alkylating agent.

1-bromobutane is also useful in polymer chemistry during the preparation of polymers but not itself behaves as a monomer unit for polymer. It is not listed under Green Chemistry chemical, hence it is not a green chemistry chemical, therefore it has itsown impact on environment.

1-bromobutane gives bromine radical upon subjecting to UV light, hence it is useful for radical reaction where bromine is required.

The following question is regarding an experiment converting 1-bromobutane from 1-butanol. We performed three extractions (separatory funnels) during this First: H20 and 1-bromobutane Second: 1 bromobutane and H2SO4 (cold) Third: Potassium carbonate and 1-bromobutane Here is the question The organic layer can also be extracted with NaOH (aq) instead of using potassium carbonate. However, sometimes, initially two layers form in the separatory funnel when the base is first added to the organic layer. But during extraction, the solution has been...
