Major intermolecular forces include the following: ionic, dipole-dipole attractions, hydrogen bonds, and dispersion forces. Indicate what type of intermolecular force occurs between particles of the compounds listed below  NF3  H2O  LiCl  OBr2  HBr  IBr

Homework Answers

Answer #1

NH3 : Ammonia is a polar molecule and it ehibits all three type of vander waals forces ; dipole-dipole, londin dispersion forces, debye forces. As Hydrogen is bonded to nitrogen. It also exhibits Hydrogen bonding.

H2O: The strongest intermolecular forces exhibited by hydrogen is special dipole bond called Hydrogen bond. A water molecule can form four hydrogen bonds.

LiCl: It is a ionic compound and strongest intermolecular forces are ionic.

OBr2: Obr2 is polar molecule and has an angular shape and ehibit dipole-dipole forces.

HBr : It is Ionic and intermolecular forces are dipole-dipole forces, there are also dispersion forces between HBr molecules.

IBr: The intermolecular forces ehibited by IBr molecules are dipole-dipole forces.
