write a net-ionic equation and to include charges and physical states as appropriate...

NaI and H2SO4

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A balanced Molecular reaction is

H2SO4 (aq) + 2 NaI (aq) Na2SO4 (aq) + 2 HI

Of the prduct formed, only HI is weak electrolyte and rest all are strong electrolyte.NaI and H2SO4 are both strong electrolytes and ionizes to full extent.

NaI (aq) Na+ (aq) + I- (aq)

H2SO4 (aq) 2H+ (aq) + SO42-(aq)

H2SO4 (aq) is a diprotic acid hence in balanced reactio equation 2 moles of NaI would react with 1 mol H2SO4 (aq) fully.

Ionic equation is,

A balanced Molecular reaction is

2H+ (aq) + SO42-(aq) + 2 Na+ (aq) + 2 I- (aq)   2 Na+ (aq) + SO42- (aq) + 2 HI

On cancelling common ions we get,

2 H+ (aq) +  2I- (aq)    2 HI

Is the net ionic equation.
