Capillary GC columns have very thin coatings. Discuss the advantages of such columns. Do you think there could be disadvantages for using a thin coating?

The capillary GC columns are made up of thin fused silica having outside surface coated with a thin polyimide polymer layer for support and protection of the fragile silica capillary resulting in coil shape.This thin siloxane layer to which stationary phases can only bind and they don't show any chemical reactions.

Disadvantage- The capillary columns are more easily oveloaded by too much sample due to thin film thickness.

But my increasing the film thickness increases capacity of the capillary tube.
