Question

arrange Cu, Ag, Zn in order of their activities listing the most active first

arrange Cu, Ag, Zn in order of their activities listing the most active first

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ag > Cu > Zn

more active less active

reason

this can be explained based on the electronic configuration of silver, copper and zinc

Ag electronic configuration = [Kr] 4d10 5s1

Cu electronic configuration = [Ar] 3d10 4s1

zn electronic configuration = [Ar] 3d10 4s2

zinc is less active since it is has completely filled 3d and 4s orbital

among copper and silver both has completely filled d orbital and half filled s orbital, in case of silver valency electrons are far away from nucleus therefore is more active element, whereus in the case of copper valency electrons are closer to nucleus compare to silver therefore it is second more reactive element among the given list.

rank Ca, Cu, Fe, Mg, Sn, and Zn in terms of increasing reactivity. rank most (if not all) of the metals by simply comparing the reactions that occurred when each metal was added to HCl Clearly, those metals that reacted with HCl to produce hydrogen gas would be considered more active that those that exhibited no reaction. In addition, the metal that reacted the most vigorously in acid would be the most reactive metal. By continuing this line of reasoning...
