2. A horse was dosed with slow-release CrO pellets that released 10 g/d CrO into the gut. After 10 days, fecal and pasture samples were taken, and DM digestibility was estimated using an internal marker. Assume the apparent DM digestibility calculated this way was 69%. What is the DM intake in kg given the following?

Feces CrO (DM basis): 5.8 g/kg

Homework Answers

Answer #1

With the value of DM in Feces calculate the DM in Feed, with the equation:

, where DMD is Dry Matter Digestibility

the value of DMD is 69 and DM in feces is 5.8g/kg,solving for DM in feed, it is obtained that DM in feed is 6.23 g/ kg

we know that there is 6.23 g of CrO in one kg of feed, then the hourse took 10g/d during 10 days, this is 100 g of CrO were released. Then with the next equation it is calculated the DM intake, DMI. If 6.23 g are in 1kg of feed in 1 day then in 10days, 100g are in 16.05kg of feed.

that is 51.6 kg of dry matter intake for the 10 days.
