In a manufacturing facility 16.3 L N2 at 25.00 °C and 125. kPa and 39.5 L O2 at 25.00 °C and 125. kPa are transferred to a new tank with a volume of 6.25 L. What is the total pressure at 47.00 °C in the new tank?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

For N2

T = 25+273 = 298K

P   = 125Kpa

V   = 16.3L

PV = nRT

n    = PV/RT

      = 125*16.3/8.314*298   = 0.823moles of N2

For O2

V = 39.5L

T = 25+273 = 298K

P   = 125Kpa

n    = PV/RT

      = 125*39.5/8.314*298   = 1.993 moles of O2

Total no of moles     = 0.823 + 1.993   = 2.816 moles

New

v = 6.25L

n = 2.816moles

T   = 47+273 = 320K

PV = nRT

P   = nRT/V

       = 2.816*8.314*320/6.25   = 1198.7 KPa

Total pressue of new tank= 1198.7 KPa
