Homework Answers

Answer #1

1) Attractiction of electrons is dependent on electronegativity of the atom. Following are the electronegativity values,

Sodium = 0.9

Oxygen = 3.5

Flourine = 4

Silver = 1.9

So, most electroneative element is Fluorine and hence it will attract the electrons more strongly.

2) Metals are the elements which can form positive ions by losing electrons. Hence, following are metals in given list:

Calcium, Magnesium, Copper, Lead, Sodium and Lithium.

Other remaining are non-metals: Sulfur, Bromine Oxygen, and Argon

3) Noble gases are inert in chemical nature. This interness is achived as they have full outer shell of electrons. Answer is They have full outer shell of electrons.

4) Elements in a group have similar chemical properties.
