One mole of ethylene at 1 bar and 25C is placed inside a frictionless piston-cylinder device. The gas is then subjected to a two-step process: (1) by keeping the piston fixed with a lacking mechanism, 25KJ of heat is added via an electrical heater; and (2)the locking mechanism is then released and 15KJ of heat is removed. The second step of the process takes placed at constant pressure. Assuming ethylene is an ideal gas, determine the following:
(a) The temperature and prssure of the gas at the end of the first step
(b) The temperature and pressure of the gas at the end of the second step
(c) W, delta U and delta H of each step
(d) W, delta U and delta H of the entire process

One mole of ideal gas is confined in a piston-cylender device, which is one foot in diameter. The piston can be assumed weightless and frictionless. The internal and external pressures are both initially 1 atm. An additional weight of 10 lbm is placed on top of the pistion and the piston drops until the gas balances the force pushing the piston downward. The temperature stays at a constant 80 degrees F. What is the Final Pressure? What is the Final...
