What effect would the initial color of a tested solution have on your determination of the pH? For example, what effect would the purple color of grape juice have on your determination?

Answer #1

The litmus paper contains a material called indicators in chemistry. The speciality of the indicator is that it can react with an acid (H+) or a base (OH-). The product when an indicator reacts with an acid will have one colour and when it reacts with a base, it will have a different colour.

When a litmus paper is put in a solution, depending on what the solution is, the indicator will react with the solution and will change its colour.

In acidic medium blue litmus is change into red color and in basic solution red is change into blue.

In grape juice we put red paper it does not change litmus color hence it may be acidic.Than we but blue paper in grape juice litmus changes color blue to red hence solution is acidic in nature.

-Using vegtable indicators to dtermine Ph what effect would the initial color of a tested solution have your determanation of the ph? For example, what effect would the purple color of grape juice have on your determination ? we tested vitaminc C, lemon juice, diet and normal cocacola, 7 up, hand soap, sucrose, mouth wash, ammonia, as the solutes with purple grape juice as the solvent in different test tubes to determine Ph by looking at the color.
