Explain why all atoms are roughly the same size (within a factor of ~4), and have similar ionization energies (within a factor of ~6.5), despite the atomic number (charge on the nucleus) varying by a factor of >100.

Answer #1

A:- Those the elements are diagonally related to each other are shows roughly same atomic size.

For example, Li => Mg, Be => Al, B => Si

Such elements shows a five similar properties, like ionization energy. The reason is, in such elemental atom the nuclear attractive forces are similar. If the nuclear attractive forces are similar, required same amount of energy to removal of electrons.

For Lithium, IE = 520.0 Kj, Magnesium, IE = 738.1

Boron, IE = 801 Kj, Silicon, IE = 786.3 Kj

Each of the statements below attempts to explain why some periodic property varies predictably among elements in the periodic table. Determine if each statement is true or false. Within a family, elements with higher atomic numbers require less energy to remove an electron from the atom because the valance electrons are in lower principal energy levels. Within a family, elements with higher atomic numbers have atoms of smaller radius because the atoms have higher effective nuclear charge. Within a period,...

Which statements are true? Explain why they are true/ or false. 1. The # of protons in an atoms nucleus determines its chemical identity. 2. The number of electrons an atom has is constant during chemical reactions. 3. Atoms may not lose or gain protons during chemical reactions. 4. Isotopes have the same number of neutrons but different number of protons 5. Neutrons generally play no role in the outcome of a chemical reaction.

You keep picking the envelopes in this way until you get an envelope that has $100. Let Y = the number of envelopes picked in order to get one with $100. Test if the proportion of envelopes in the bag with $100 is over 0.10. It is decided...
