edited: how do you determine the number of waters of crystallization in the formula by titrating a sample of sodium carbonate? I'm not sure how to set up this procedure or the numbers to use...using .1M HCl Volume of analyze used?
*Titrant = HCl, estimated endpoint volume of the titration (.1 M HCl) i'm confused on how you find these parts in order to write the procedure?
Weigh x grams of hydrated sodium carbonate. Put these in a conical flask. Add some water till it dissolves. Add few drops of bromocresol green indicator to the conical flask. Fill the burette with 0.1 M HCl. Titrate the sodium carbonate solution with dropwise addition of HCl from burette. The end point will be indicated by the colour change from blue to green. Record the volume of 0.1 M HCl from the burette. Let it be y L.
Calculations:
Number of moles of HCl
Number of moles of sodium carbonate
The molecular weight of hydrated sodium carbonate
The molecular weight of anhydrous sodium carbonate is 106 g/mol
The number of waters of crystallization in the formula
