NaHCO3---> NA2CO3+CO2+H2O : Balance

What V of Co2 at 77 degrees C and 756 mmhg can be produced from 26.8g of NaHCO3?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

2 NaHCO3---> Na2CO3+CO2+H2O

Molar mass of NaHCO3,

MM = 1*MM(Na) + 1*MM(H) + 1*MM(C) + 3*MM(O)

= 1*22.99 + 1*1.008 + 1*12.01 + 3*16.0

= 84.008 g/mol

mass of NaHCO3 = 26.8 g

molar mass of NaHCO3 = 84.008 g/mol

mol of NaHCO3 = (mass)/(molar mass)

= 26.8/84.008

= 0.319 mol

According to balanced equation

mol of CO2 formed = (1/2)* moles of NaHCO3

= (1/2)*0.319

= 0.1595 mol

Now we will get volume of CO2

Given:

P = 756.0 mm Hg

= (756.0/760) atm

= 0.9947 atm

n = 0.1595 mol

T = 77.0 oC

= (77.0+273) K

= 350 K

use:

P * V = n*R*T

0.9947 atm * V = 0.1595 mol* 0.0821 atm.L/mol.K * 350 K

V = 4.61 L

Answer: 4.61 L
