How do I find a decay rate constant(K) and ultimate BOD if all I am given are the temperature, ml of solution, initial and the final DO of two samples after 7 days. (One diluted one not).

Answer #1

Rate Constant (K) depends upon the following .i.e.

it depends upon the reaction involved

it depends upon the type of Bacteria in case of BOD as more the BOD more poor is the quality of water

it also depends upon the temperature

Rate = - Δ[organic]/Δtime = K[organic]-1

On the other hand “ultimate BOD” is the amount of oxygen (O2) required to decompose all of the organic material after “infinite time”.

This is usually simply calculated form the 5 or 20 day data.

BODE(BOD exerted) = BOD (1- e-kt)

If temperature and intial and final DO of two sample is given then rate depends on these factors as from these factors rate is calculated.(One diluted one not)

A BOD test is run using 80 mL of treated wastewater mixed with 160 mL of pure water. The initial DO of the mix is 8.0 mg/L. After 5 days, the DO is 4.0 mg/L. After a long period of time, the DO is 2.0 mg/L, and it no longer seems to be dropping. Assume nitrification has been inhibited so the only BOD being measured is carbonaceous. a. You are tasked with conducting BOD studies for a waste treatment facility and its discharge to a nearby river. You are told that the facility removes 93% of the BOD in total with a discharge rate of 1.0 m3 /s. you sample the receiving water and find that it has a 0.5 mg/L deficit from saturation concentration (saturation is at 9.7 mg/L) and a BOD5 content of 10 mg/L. The river flows at a speed of 0.25 m/s and has...

Im doing a question where i am trying to find the work done for an adiabatic irreversible prefaces but i don't have the final temperature or pressure.. I also don't have the force or area of the flask being used to find the second pressure. How do I find it? Given 0.35 moles of methane (Cvm = 27.38 J/Kmol) at SATP. The change is due to minimum external pressure to reach the final state.

I'm using Rstudio and i am not very familiar using it. I am not sure how i am suppose to code this to place it in the chunk to get results. I need to calculate the number of mg/ml that existed in the cuvette for all of these samples. Note that there were two dilution steps for most of these. For samples, 2, 3, 4, and 11, the protein was diluted with water when preparing 1 ml test tube samples. then for all six samples, the protein was again diluted when mixing with Biuret reagent.
