What is the initial pressure of an elastic balloon that occupies the volume of 1.00L, to 295.5.K, if its pressure was increased from 760.0mmHg to 340K, occupying a final volume of 1.14L?

Answer #1

SOLUTION

Given,

initial volume = V1 =  1.00L ; final volume = V2 =  1.14L

initial temperature = T1 =  295.5.K   final temperature = T2   =  340K

initial pressure = P1 = ? final pressure = P2 =  760.0mmHg

Using the relationship   P1 V1 / T1 =   P2 V2 / T2

Substituting the values in the above relationship

P1 * 1.00L / 295.5.K =  760.0mmHg *  1.14L /  340K

P1 = 753.0 mmHg Answer
