Question

how do enantiomers differ in their chemical properties?

how do enantiomers differ in their chemical properties?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Enantiomers are stereoisomers which are mirror images to each other. Important properties of enantiomers includes:
1. Similar physical properties except that they rotate plane polarised light in opposite directions (ie. enantiomers have just opposite optical rotations).
2. Similar chemical properties except when another chiral molecule is attached to this compound (because by this way they form diastereomers which have different physical and chemical properties).
3. Enantiomers may have very different biological properties.
