Consider two ionic compounds A and B. A has a larger lattice energy than B. which of the two compounds is more stable? Explain.

Answer #1

Basically lattice energy is defined as a measure of the energy contained in the crystal lattice of a compound, equal to the energy that would be released if the component ions were brought together from infinity. It indirectly tells about the energy required for their formation and same energy will be required to break them.

Now  the lattice energy is related to the stability of the ionic solid. The larger the lattice energy, the more stable the solid.

Thus A is more stable than B as A has higher lattice energy than B.
