With the aid of a diagram describe an X-ray
spectrometer detector that is similar to a detector
used in UV/visible and mass spectrometer. Indicate what
modifications are made for this
detector to be used in X-rays?
When used for detection of radiation of UV rays and Visible regions the Photomultuiplier tubes response is the best. So the modification to use this in Xray spectrometer can be done by placing a scintillator. The Scintilator is placed between the incoming photons and the photocathode. The usage of scintilators is to convert higher energy photons to visible photons. And the visible photons can be easily and efficiently mutiplied by the the photomultiplier tubes.
