What is the main challenge in the identification of illegal street drugs by IR spectroscopy? How is it addressed?

Answer #1

Rapid and sudden expansion of illicit substances is such as NPS (novel psychoactive) drugs, whose literature is not easily available for the analyst. Usually, a scientist needs to compare the result with the available library of information for the purpose of interpreting IR spectra. In order to address, the challenge offered by the NPS drugs, the scientist should have high expertise on the IR interpretation, so that he/she can interpret the results without the help of literature.
