Ethanol (the drinking alcohol) C2H5OH, has a density of 0.789 g/cm3. How many pounds of ethanol would be in a drum containing 5.0 gallons of ethanol?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The density of ethanol   = 0.789g/cm^3

1gallon                           = 3785.4ml

The volume of ethanol   = 5gallons = 5*3785.4   = 18927ml

mass of ethanol   = volume * density

                             = 18927*0.789   = 14933.4g

   1g = 0.002205pounds

mass of ethnol = 14933.4g = 14933.4*0.002205   = 32.93pounds of ethanol >>>>>answer
