As we have learned, a PID controller continuously calculates and applies a correction to the control signal based on proportional, integral, and derivative manipulation of the error signal. PID controllers originated in the 19th century and are used today in a wide range of control applications. Research an application of your choosing and in no less than one page (including figures) describe how the PID controller functions in the particular application. Be sure to cite references. Extra points may be awarded to students who identify and appropriately describe the operation of unique PID applications.

Answer #1

PID refer to proportioanal integral derivative controller. PID controller is used for temperature control in the furnace, pH control and reaction temperature control in a batch reactor.(controlstation.com/pid-control/) the schematic of PID is shown below.

P control gives output which is proportional to error. Actual value is compared with the set point of temperature and then errot is multipled with some constant.

the controller never reaches steady state.

I controller reduces the off-set produced by P-controller,

however i controller does not preduct the future. Hence D controller is used. the combined response is shown below.

PID improves the stability of system by compensating phase lag caused by I-controll
