if 0.138 of cyclohexene was obtained from 0.240g of cyclohexanol what is the percentage yield of cyclohexene

Homework Answers

Answer #1

we know that

moles = mass / molar mass

also

molar mass of cyclohexanol = 100 g / mol

so

moles of cyclohexanol = 0.24 / 100

moles of cyclohexanol = 2.4 x 10-3

now

we know that

moles of Cyclohexene formed = moles of cyclohexanol reacted

so

moles of cyclohexne formed = 2.4 x 10-3

now

mass = moles x molar mass

so

mass of cyclohexene formed = 2.4 x 10-3 x 82

mass of cyclohexene formed = 0.1968

so

0.1968 g of cyclohexene should be formed

now

percent yield = ( actual / theoretical ) x 100

given

actual yield = 0.138

so

percent yield = 0.138 x 100 / 0.1968

percent yield = 70.12

so

the percent yield is 70.12

How do you calculate predicted yield of a hydrogenation reaction of cyclohexene to form benzene and cyclohexane? I started with 1.6 mL of cyclohexene and did a hydrogenation with palladium/carbon to get the products benzene and cyclohexane, and I'm trying to calculate expected yield. Cyclohexene is 82 g/mol and benzene is 78 g/mol and cyclohexane is 84 g/mol. Thanks!
