What is the buffer-component concentration ratio, [Pr - ]/[HPr], of a buffer that has a pH of 5.01 (Ka of HPr = 1.3 ✕ 10-5)?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

   Pka   = -logka

            = -log1.3*10-5

             = 4.886

PH   = PKa + log[Pr-]/[HPr]

5.01 = 4.886 + log[Pr-]/[HPr]

log[Pr-]/[HPr]   = 5.01-4.886

log[Pr-]/[HPr]    = 0.124

[Pr-]/[HPr]       = 100.124

[Pr-]/[HPr]        = 1.3304/1 >>>> answer
