equilibrium is set up when rate of flow of solute in both directions (from solvent 1 to 2 and vice versa) is equal. This often occurs when the ratio of the concentration of solute in the two solvents reaches a constant value at a particular temperature.

Partition coefficient (k) = concentration of solute in 1 / concentration of solute in 2

Partition cofficent (K) = 0.1 M / 0.5 M = 0.2
