What would be a better indicator for a titration HC2H3O2 with NaOH; Methyl Red or Phenolphthalein?
I feel like its phenolphthalien since NaOH is a strong base and HC2H3O2 is a weak acid, but I just want to verify.
At equivalence point, equal proportions of acid and base or mixed. The purpose of an indicator is to identify the equivalence point where there is change in color. A weak acid ( CH3COOH) will react with a strong base ( NaOH) to form a basic (pH > 7) solution.
Phenolphthalein is colourless below pH 8.5 and changes pink to deep red hue above pH 9.0 , the equivalence point of titration.
it has a strong color and the change from colorless to pink makes it easy to detect during titrations.
