carbon monoxide is to be burned with air at atmospheric pressure to produce a gad containing an equal number of moles of CO and CO2 . The products of combustion leave the furnace at 4400F. If the only significant reaction is the oxidation of CO and CO2, what is the composition of the gas leaving the combustion chamber? You may assume equilibrium at the combustion chamber exit and the equilibrium at this condition is 6 atm^-1/2.

Answer #1

Ans.

     COCO2

     x/2                x/2

mole of CO =mole of CO2=x/2

mole fraction of CO = (x/2)/(x/2+x/2)

                            =0.5

mole fracton of CO2 =1-x/2

                              =0.5.
