Give an example of each.
Molecular solid
Metalic solid
Ionic solid
1) Molecular solid: A molecular solid is a type of solid in which molecules are held together by van-der-Waals forces rather than by covalent or ionic bonds.
In molecular solids, the dipole forces are weaker as compared to ionic or covalent bond forces. Hence, molecular solids to have comparitively low melting points. Often molecular solids dissolve in organic solvents.
e.g. Ice, Solid CO2, table sugar.
2) Metallic solid: The solids, in which the constituent particles are metal atoms, are called as metallic solids.
e.g. Copper (Cu), Aluminium (Al), Gold (Au), Silver (Ag). Except alkali and few alkaline earth metalsmost of other metals form metallic solid.
3) Ionic solid: The solids, in which the constituent particles are ions, such as cation and anions are called as Ionic solids.
e.g. NaCl (salt), NH4Cl (ammonium chloride), Na2SO4 (Sodium sulphate)
