According to de Broglie, if the circumference of the electron's orbit in the hydrogen atom is twice the electron's wavelength, _________

a) the electron wave does not close in on itself.

b) the orbit will be stable.

c) the orbit will cause the electron to emit a photon

d) the orbit will not be circular.

Answer #1

According to de Broglie hypothesis, if the circumference of electron's orbit is integral multiple of wavelength then the orbit will be stable.

Now as 2 is an integer do the right answer is (b) The orbit will be stable.

It can't be (a) as in a stable orbit the wave close in (i.e. There'll be complete wave)

It can't be (c) as in stable nucleus the electron don't emit any radiation or photon.

It can't be (d) as orbital according to de Broglie the stable orbit is circular.
