The KMn04 test shows that we have a molecule conatining an alkene in our final product. That does not mean that the prouct is necessarily pure. Propose one way our final product could actually be a mixture yet still show a positive result in the KMn04 test.

We are told that the blood test is 95 percent reliable, this means that the test will yield an accurate positive result in 95% of the cases where the disease is actually present. Suppose next that we have even less knowledge of our patient, and we are only given the accuracy of the blood test and prevalence of the disease in our population. We are told that the blood test is 96 percent reliable, this means that the test will yield an accurate positive result in 96% of the cases where the disease is actually present. Gestational diabetes affects 7 percent of the population in our patient’s age group, and that our test...

We have manufactured a product and are testing whether it is better than a competitor's product. We find that 13 of 20 people prefer our product to the competitor's product. Do we have enough evidence to declare that we have a superior product, or is there still doubt? a. our P-value is above 10%, so there is still doubt b. out P-value is between 5% and 10%, so there is still doubt c. our P-value is below 5% so we...

Hello I have a question about organic chemistry 1 lab. When doing chemical tests the Br2 in CCl4. Shows a positive result for alkenes and alkynes? And negative test results mean a alkene and/or arene? I’m told in lab that we do not have potassium permanganate so we cannot use it. The second test that were told to preform if nothing else is shown on the IR is a halide test. I hope this makes sense. I’m just confused about...

Suppose a test for cancer is given. If a person has cancer, the test will detect it in 96% of the cases; if the person does not have cancer, the test will show a positive result 1% of the time. If we assume that 12% of the population taking the test actually has cancer, what is the probability (rounded to the nearest percent) that a person taking the test and obtaining a positive actually has cancer?

Report how much glucose was present before we started fermentation (this is 800 mg/dL for everybody because we just did one representative test). Use this number to calculate the maximum theoretical mass (in grams) of ethanol that we could have produced in the fermentation. In other words, given that one molecule of glucose produces two molecules of ethanol, calculate how many grams of ethanol could be produced if every single glucose molecule was converted into two ethanol molecules (this is...

1. ‘We have to get this new product and fast’, said the Operations Director. ‘Our competitors are close behind us and I believe their products will be almost as good as ours when they launch them’. She was talking about a new product that the company hoped would establish them as the leader in the market. The company had put together a special development team together with their own development laboratory. They had spent £10,000 on equipping the laboratory and...

test for a certain disease is found to be 95% accurate, meaning that it will correctly diagnose the disease in 95 out of 100 people who have the ailment. The test is also 95% accurate for a negative result, meaning that it will correctly exclude the disease in 95 out of 100 people who do not have the ailment. For a certain segment of the population, the incidence of the disease is 4%. (1) If a person tests positive, find...

"To diagnose colorectal cancer, the hemoccult test is conducted to detect occult blood in the stool. For symptom-free people over 50 years old who participate in screening using the hemoccult test, the following information is available. The probability that one of these people has colorectal cancer is 0.3 percent. If a person has colorectal cancer, the probability is 50 percent that he will have a positive hemoccult test. If a person does not have colorectal cancer, the probability is 3...
