Question

How is a 1% (v/v) solution prepared?

How is a 1% (v/v) solution prepared?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A (volume/volume) % is calculated by dividing the volume of solute by the volume of the solution which is expressed as a per cent.

%(v/v) = [volume of solute / volume of solution] * 100 %

Now to prepare 1 % (v/v) solution we must make the ratio of the volume of solute and volume of solution equal to 0.01.

This can be done by taking 1 ml of solute and 99 ml of solvent.

Hence , volume of solution = 100 ml which makes the required ratio = 0.01 and % volume = 1%
