The atoms or ions having only one electron are called hydrogen-like atoms.
At very low pressures, when high potential is applied through hydrogen gas, a bluish light is evolved. When this light is analyzed, hydrogen atomic emission spectrum is obtained, which is called line spectrum of the hydrogen.
In the line spectrum of the hydrogen, several sharp and bright lines are present in UV region, visible region and IR region. These lines are grouped into 5 series - Lyman, Bakker, Paschen, Bracket and Pfund series.
