Rank in order from largest in magnitude to smallest in magnitude the activity coefficients of the solute in the following aqueous solutions: 0.1 m sucrose, 0.1 m NaCl, 0.1 m CaCl2 . Explain.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

0.1 m sucrose, it produces only one particle in the solution.Sucrose cann't ionizes to ions in the solution but it is miscible with the water.

0.1 m NaCl, it splits into Na+ and Cl- ions and produces two particles in the solution.

0.1 m CaCl2, it splits into Ca+2 and 2Cl- ions and produces three particles in the solution.

Rank in order from largest in magnitude to smallest in magnitude the activity coefficients of the solute is as follows

0.1 m CaCl2 > 0.1 m NaCl > 0.1 m sucrose
