Explain why a parked car in a sunny location may becomes hot

Homework Answers

Answer #1

When a car is parked in a sunny location it is directly exposed to the sun rays, that means sun rays are directly falling on the car. Now a windshield and windows glasses on the car magnifies these rays that produces heat. We know visible light can pass through the glass but Infrared rays which essentially means nothing but can not pass through the glass to fair amount of extent. Also when car is parked, it completely closed so air inside the Car is not moving or being replaced by the air outside the car. This leads to the accumulation of heat inside the car. If the interior of the car is dark coloured then the situation becomes worse as dark colours absorb more heat. Adding all these factors leads to the heating of the car.
