What is the difference between and the relation between energy levels and states?

What is the difference between and the relation between energy levels and states?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

A quantum mechanics particle can only take on certain discrete values of energy. These discrete values are called energy levels. Electrons in an atom are different distances from the nucleus have different energy levels (1, 2, 3, and so on). The smaller the number of the energy level, the nearest it is from the nucleus and larger the number of the energy level, the farther it is from the nucleus.

When an atom is at its lowest energy, it is in the ground state.

When n = 1 energy level of atoms has exactly two states for electrons.

n = 2 energy level has exactly eight states for electrons.
