what is drying agent?

drying agents are any kind of material which will absorb humidity from any other material,

this is helpful,specially when we require "dry" measurments, for instance, dry CuSO4 from hydrated salts, CuSO4*H2O

Can it be used in liquid soultion?

Yes, actually, in organic medium, water will be absorbed, while leaving the "organic" solvent

Why is it so important in several lab procedures?

it is important since plenty of gravimetric/volumetric techniques relate to mass / stoichioemtric factors

if there are "impurities" of humidiy or even other material reacting, for instace KOH(s) + humidity; you increase error% in the procedure
