For the balanced reaction of: N2 + 3H2 → 2NH3. What is the mass of the excess reagent when 84.06g of N2 and 22.18g of H2 are combined?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

molar mass of N2 = 28.013 gm /mole

molar mass of H2 = 2.01 therefore 3 mole of H2 = 2.01 3 = 6.03 gm

According to reaction 1 mole of N2 react with 3 mole of H2 that mean 28.013 gm of N2 react with 6.03 gm of H2 then for to react with 84.06 gm of N2 required H2 = 84.06 6.03 / 28.013 = 18.09 gm of H2 required

but H2 given 22.18 gm and required is 18.09 therefore 22.18 - 18.09 = 4.09 gm of H2 is excess reagent.
