1. How many molecules of NADH are obtained from the β-oxidation of one molecule of a 20-carbon saturated fatty acyl-CoA?

2. How many molecules of FADH2 are obtained from the β-oxidation of one molecule of a 14-carbon saturated fatty acyl-CoA?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

1- 9 NADH

20 carbon atom fatty acid during beta oxidation form 10 acetal group and goes through 9 round of beta oxidation of acatal group. Each round produce 1 NADH , 1FADH2 and 10 ATP . 10 ATP also for tenth acetal with CO ezymeA. Thus it produce 27 ATP(from 9NADH) + 18ATP(from 9FADH2) +90 ATP +10ATP (from tenth acetal)= 145 ATP produce.

2 ATP used in activation of fatty acid.

Net ATP = 143

2. 14 carbon fatty acid =( 14/2)-1=6 round beta oxidation.

FADH2 produced = 6
