Suppose you have an alkaline buffer consisting of 0.20M aqueous ammonia (NH3) and 0.10M ammonium chloride (NH4Cl). What is the ph of the solution?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

   0.20M aqueous ammonia (NH3)

0.10M ammonium chloride (NH4Cl)

POH   = Pkb + log[NH4Cl]/[NH3]

              =4.74 + log0.1/0.2

              = 4.74-0.3010

               = 4.439

   PH     = 14-POH

            = 14-4.439   = 9.561 >>>> answer
