How do phase interactions contribute to the fate of hazardous wastes?

How do phase interactions contribute to the fate of hazardous wastes?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

(1) If solid contains some hazardous waste , when water body of other phase is flowing through the solids then, these hazardous waste are carried by the water and taken to the other region. This is how transfer of hazardous waste from one place to other place take place.

(2) Some times hazardous waste in the solids are taken by the wind ( bulk movement of wind) .Sometimes desoption (opposite of adsorption) takes place where wastes from the solids is moved to wind due to concentration difference.

(3) Hazardous waste from the liquids is carried by adsoption on the solid; absoption to the air .

Hazardous wastes exist in the household in the form of common products used every day. Identify 4 products in your home that meet one of the 4 characteristics for hazardous waste (one product for Ignitability, one for Corrosivity, one for Reactivity, and one for Toxicity). For example, a can of hairspray is ignitable. Describe each product (what it is, the manufacture or producer, what it’s used for, and how it meets the characteristic of hazardous waste by identifying the component...

An incinerator is used for the destruction of hazardous wastes. The incinerator is supplied with 50% excess oxygen contained in an oxygen-enriched air stream (40% O2 and 60% N2). The fuel is liquid hexane. Both the oxygen-enriched air stream and the fuel enter the incinerator at 25 oC and 1 atm. Estimate the temperature of the flue gas stream. You must show full systematic working. * Hint: try an iterative approach, with an initial assumption that the flue gas is...
