1. Scientists produced white faced Dolly at the Roslin Institute in Scotland after 277 attempts from a 6 year old white sheep’s udder cell. The scientist altered the medium in which the cells were kept to stop its growth but keep them alive. This cell was injected into an unfertilized egg cell, of Scottish Blackface ewe, from which the nucleus was removed. The cells were fused using electrical pulses. Eventually these cells were fused and an embryo developed from them. It was cultured for 6-7 days to see and when it divided and developed normally, it was implanted into a surrogate Scottish Blackface ewe. Finally the pregnancy went to full term after 29 embryos were implanted into 13 surrogate mothers. After 148 days a 6.6 kg Dolly was born.
